South West Football League Finals Series back on RadioWest

Local footy is back in the spotlight with the 2010 South West Football League Finals Series about to kick off. And RadioWest is proud to once again be covering the best action.

For the next four weekends, all Hands Oval matches will be broadcast by the RadioWest commentary team, headed up by Daniel Leach along with Cameron Spragg, Jordan Scardetta and Jarred O’Brien.

Daniel Leach is the host of the Saturday morning sport show, The Locker Room, and says this year’s final series is going to be one of the closest yet.

“The top five sides that have made it this year are extremely well-deserving of making it and it’s quite possible that a side from outside the top two could go all the way,” said Leach.

“South Bunbury has been the dominant side all season, piling up some big wins next to their name. Carey Park has flexed their muscle a bit in the last couple of weeks too. But don’t discount a side like Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault – they’ve got a lot of players that have played finals football before, and their coach Heath Black’s done a great job in the last few weeks.”

The finals coverage kicks off this Sunday afternoon with the Qualifying Final between Carey Park and Bunbury from 2pm. The week after will be the Semi Final (likely to be the 2nd Semi Final), followed by the Preliminary Final.

Grand Final day will be huge with a 2-hour preview show to start from midday live from Hands Oval, where they’ll interview the coaches and the captains, plus look back at what’s been an incredibly close season. Then at 2pm on Sunday October 3, RadioWest will once again cover the South West Football League Grand Final.

Asked for a tip, Daniel Leach is sure on one thing. “I’ve got a feeling it will be a replay of last year’s Grand Final.”

“I’d like to think South Bunbury can get some revenge from last year’s loss, where they only booted four goals, which was the lowest score in a Grand Final in South West history. But the Panthers’ finals form over the last couple of years has been close to flawless. I’ll flip a coin!”

RadioWest’s coverage of the South West Football League Finals Series has been recognised over the last few years at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, being the winner of the Best Sports Event Coverage

Non-Metropolitan for the 2007 series, and was nominated for the 2008 series as well.

The 2009 Finals Series coverage is once again up for the Best Sports Event Coverage Non-Metropolitan at this year’s awards in Melbourne, which will be handed out on October 16.
