WA Women's Football League Grand Finals

THE West Australian Women's Football League Grand Finals will be held at Brownes Stadium in Lathlain tomorrow, Sunday September 4.

The Division 2 Grand Final starts at 10am, followed by Division 1 at noon and the Premier League Grand Final at 2.30pm.

Premier League Grand Final Preview
After a hard fought season in the WA Women’s Football League and close finals games only two teams remain standing in the Premier League division for 2011, the East Fremantle Sharks and the Coastal Titans.

After a standout season in which they lost only two games, the East Fremantle Sharks will be coming into this week’s Grand Final confident and fresh after earning the week off defeating the Coastal Titans in the first week of finals.
The Sharks will be looking towards their strong midfield which has been running through teams all season, lead by the 2010 and 2011 WAWFL best and fairest winner Melissa Caulfield and Debbie Lee Medallist Kirby Bentley, both all Australian players that should have a big impact on the result of the game.

Coastal Titans continue to prove that they are one of the most successful clubs in WAWFL history after making it through to every Grand Final since entering the WAWFL in 2004 winning 5 Premierships out of the 7 seasons. Titans know how step up in Grand Finals. The Titans will be drawing on the experienced Lauren Stammers for composure through the middle and the exciting high flying mark of Renee Forth up forward to guide them into a winning position.

With this game boasting 18 of the 2011 State Open Women’s Football team it is sure to be an exciting and skilful display of football. This looks to be an extremely close contest with two highly talented teams the result could go either way, definitely a game not to be missed.

Division 1 Grand Final Preview
It has been a very close race in the race to secure a spot in the Grand Final for Division 1 this year, but it has come down to 2010 Grand Finalists the South Fremantle Bulldogs and the Peel Thunderbirds.

South Fremantle Bulldogs are coming into the weekend feeling focused and well prepared after getting the opportunity to sit back and watch Peel narrowly beat East Fremantle last weekend. The bulldogs’ Kahra Sprlyan, Division 1 Best and Fairest winner, will be looking to get the ball in her hands early to shake off any nerves, as she tries to carry her remarkable form into her first Grand Final match.

The South Fremantle crowd will definitely be excited when Heidi Schlesniak, Division 1’s Leading Goal Kicker in 2011, gets the ball inside attacking 50.

Peel Thunderbirds, after flourishing in their first season in the WAWFL and taking out the flag for their division, are back to defend their title. With Chelsea Gogan having another great season along with a young rising star in Emma Swanson, the Thunderbirds are going to be hard to stop when they are moving the ball forward.

Can the Thunderbirds make it back to back Premierships or will the Bulldogs be able to sink their teeth into a second Premiership for the club.

Division 2 Grand Final Preview
Competing in the Division 2 Grand Final will be the two new clubs to the WAWFL, the SNESA Angels and the Mount Lawley Hawks who couldn’t have asked for a better start in the WAWFL.

As the season unfolded the SNESA Angels ability to work as a unit has seen them consistently come out of games with convincing wins. As a big part of the driving run through the midfield Caitlyn Edwards, Division 2 Best and Fairest winner, can be very damaging when delivering the ball to the Bronwyn Hansen, 2011 Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker.

Mount Lawley Hawks should not be under estimated heading into this weekend’s game, after having two solid wins to make it into the Grand Final they are peaking at the business end of the season. Lead by their captain Aimee Campbell, the team will be feeding off her inspirational courage and experience on the football field. With young runners like Kate Hutchins, will be looking to score early to help settle the nerves.

Which team can make their first season in the WAWFL one for the record books by winning the Premiership cup? Will the Angels continue to charge or will the Hawks be able to kick the winning score?
