DO your kids want to play footy and you want to learn more about the game? Want some skills and confidence to kick the ball around the backyard with your kids?
The West Perth Football club is conducting an exciting female football opportunity which is the only one of its kind anywhere in Australia. The program is unique and exciting and aims to teach local mums about our great game of football.
To be held over four Monday evenings in May and June, the Footy for Mums program will include free sessions conducted by experienced football coaches, catering especially for mums in the football community. It doesn’t matter what footy history you have or your fitness level, this program caters for all levels.
“Research shows that it is the mother figure of the household that dictates what sport kids play,” said Andrew Ridley, West Perth ‘Smarter than Smoking’ District Manager.
“By educating mum’s about the game of football and teaching them footy skills, it gives them confidence to get out in the backyard to kick a ball with the kids as well as learning about the fun, safe game of Australian Rules Football.”
The sessions are open to women of any age but focus on local mums. In 2010, the West Perth District is also encouraging local school teachers to get involved and expand their skill base. The West Perth District particularly encourages new Australian residents to consider this opportunity.
The West Perth Football District stretches through the City of Wanneroo and City of Joondalup, both councils with a high British migrant population of in excess of 30 per cent.
Footy for Mums sessions will run on Monday evenings on May 24 and 31 and June 14 and 21 at Arena Joondalup. Get a group of friends together and sign up now for the four week program.
Skills will include kicking, handballing, marking and game play. It’s a great way to get fit, have a laugh and learn about the great game of Australian Rules Football.
