Subiaco District Dreaming

This weekend, Sunday July 4, the Subiaco District is conducting a carnival at Des Penman Reserve in Nollamara. The carnival is called District Dreaming and celebrates the role that Indigenous Australians play in our game of Australian Football, showcasing indigenous culture and integrating community.

The carnival is in its fourth year and was the initiative of the Northern Cobra’s Junior Football Club to acknowledge the indigenous stars that play Australian Rules football and was developed after Jarrod Oakley Nicholls was drafted to Richmond and then subsequently debuted at the annual "Dreamtime at the 'G" game in 2006, where he scored the winning behind.

District Dreaming (formally District Dreamtime) will host 10 matches with 20 teams from within the Subiaco District. The day also provides an opportunity to continue to reinforce positive game environments, provide the history of aboriginal culture through a welcome to the country address and cultural dance and an opportunity to integrate the community through football.

District Dreaming is supported by the O’Regan Group Insurance Brokers, City of Stirling and the West Australian Football League and all coaches and managers will receive a District Dreaming polo shirt to signify the role they play in developing our young players.

A special harlequin football, red and yellow alternate panels, has been designed for the carnival that will be use in the matches throughout the day.

An official welcome will commence at 11:00am in front of the main clubrooms and will feature a welcome to country address by a local indigenous elder and a cultural dance by the Little Doorum Dancers.

When: Sunday 4th July

Where: Des Penman Reserve, Nollamara

Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm (official welcome commences at 11:00am)
