A Nyoongar Magic AFL Clinic for Aboriginal boys between the ages of 12 and 15 will be held at Des Penman Reserve, Nollamara, over the next three weeks as part of an initiative to engage new players with the game.
The clinics have been organised by the West Australian Football Commission and Subiaco District in conjunction with the City of Stirling, Nyoongar Sports and the WA Police Neighbourhood Policing Team Nollamara.
The clinics begin on Wednesday March 16 from 4.30-5.30pm and run for three Wednesdays, ending on March 30. Former AFL and WAFL players Des Headland Alistair Pickett will also be involved with the program.
On Sunday, April 3, there will be a twilight exhibition match for the participants. Healthy lifestyle stalls will be set up and there will be the chance to win a signed Subiaco FC jumper.
Each clinic and the twilight match will include a free sausage sizzle and Nyoongar Sports will run side activities for younger children as part of the initiative.
Subiaco Smarter than Smoking District Manager Ben Haywood said the program was part of a continuing focus of the District to use football as a vehicle for social inclusion with the indigenous community.
