The Alcoa Peel Football League defeated the WA Amateur Football League U’23’s side by 7 points at Gil Fraser Reserve on Wednesday night 12.5.77 to 10.10.70.

This was largely thanks to man of the match & Captain of the Senior Alcoa PFL Cavaliers side Greg Sanders, who kicked 7 goals and showed that he will be one of the Alcoa PFL’s stars come the Landmark Carnival.

There were great individual contributions from McKenzie O’Brien, Tim Springett and Ryan McKinley - three great young talents. The Cavaliers, who kicked 7 goals to 1 in the third term, coming from 14 points down at half time, really showed the quality which the Peel region possesses.

The WAAFL came back strong in the final quarter, hitting the front with 12 minutes to go, the score changed hands three times to see the Alcoa PFL hit the front with 7 minutes to play. The inclement weather set in for the first time in the match, seeing the last 7 minutes see the ball play in scrimmage after scrimmage. The siren sounded with Peel winning by a little over a goal.

Coach Paul Pannell was extremely impressed with the talent in the line up and its going to be hard to pick the starting 22 to take on the Upper Great Southern in the first match of Landmark on Thursday July 8 at Bassendean Oval.
