WAFC hosts Multicultural Round eventsThursday, July 24, 2014 - 12:10 PM

The West Australian Football Commission is hosting a number of events this week to celebrate AFL Multicultural Round in partnership with the AFL, Australia Post, Department of Sport and Recreation and the Office of Multicultural Interests.

Events included a Welcome to AFL Day on Monday and a Cultural Diversity Breakfast at Patersons Stadium on Thursday, July 24, with AFL Multicultural Ambassadors Bachar Houli and Nic Naitanui.

The breakfast also played host to a special citizenship ceremony, which saw 11 people from five countries make the pledge to become Australia’s newest citizens.

School students from the Australian Islamic College also attended a clinic with Bachar Houli after the breakfast.

On Friday night, multicultural players will participate in a curtain raiser to the West Coast v Richmond AFL game.

This weekend players in the WA Amateur Football League, WA Women’s Football League and junior football competitions in WA are being provided with red arm bands to help raise awareness of football’s zero tolerance approach to racial vilification.
