CBC Fremantle defeated Newman College to win the AFL SportsReady Cup for the second consecutive year.
The AFL SportsReady Cup is a competition designed to specifically cater for the needs of students in Year 10. A series of one day regional lightning carnivals were played during Term 2, coordinated by School Sport WA and the Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA to determine which schools were invited to participate in a regional finalist’s carnival to decide the AFL SportsReady Cup champions for 2010.
The winners of these regional carnivals were:
Metro South East - Kelmscott SHS, Darling Range Sports College
Metro South Coast - Willetton SHS
Metro North East - Governor Stirling SHS, Ballajurra Community College
Metro North Coast - Woodvale SHS, Shenton College
South West - Manjimup SHS
Peel - Comet Bay College
ACC - Newman College, Seton Catholic College, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, CBC Fremantle
Former AFL & WAFL players and current AFL SportsReady WA State Manager Leigh Willison was on hand to present the AFL SportsReady Cup and medallions to players, coaches and umpires.
AFL SportsReady is a not for profit employment and training organisation dedicated to sourcing and facilitating meaningful employment and training for:
- Students in their final years of school hoping to get a foot in the door of the sports and sports related industries - Australian School Based Apprenticeships
- Male and female school leavers wishing to work in the sports and sports related industries
- Indigenous Australians wishing to work in the sports and leisure industry
Since 1995, AFL SportsReady has facilitated employment traineeships and training for over 4,000 school leavers in a wide range of sporting organisations.
