2010 Hall of Fame inductees

NINE of Western Australia’s football icons were inducted to the NAB West Australian Football Hall of Fame last night (March 10) during a gala event at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.

Haydn Bunton Jnr. was also elevated to Legend status on the night, joining the likes of Barry Cable, Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, John Todd and Bill Walker as Legends of West Australian football.

The West Australian Football Commission established the WA Football Hall of Fame in 2002 to honour players, coaches, umpires, administrators and media representatives who have made a significant contribution to the game in this State.

Wolfenden elected Chairman of East Fremantle DFDC

GEOFF Wolfenden has been elected Chairman of the East Fremantle District Football Development Council to lead the strategic drive and oversee growth of the game in the district.

Mr Wolfenden, who won last year’s Ken Armstrong Community Coach of the Year Award as Melville Amateur Football Club’s senior coach, will chair and lead all meetings of the East Fremantle DFDC and oversee the activities of Executive members, special projects, and complaint resolution among member clubs.

Register to Play AFL in 2010

REGISTRATIONS commenced on Sunday, February 21 for football competitions across Western Australia.

From Auskick to Amateurs, local clubs are signing players up for the season, starting last Sunday and continuing throughout 2010.

To promote the opening registration day, Fremantle Football Club's Michael Johnson and West Coast Eagles player Daniel Kerr conducted a skills session with juniors at Subiaco Oval during the week.

WAFC appoints next Chairman

FRANK Cooper has been appointed as the next Chairman of the WA Football Commission, effective 16 June 2010.

Mr Cooper, a serving Commissioner, will replace out-going Chairman Neale Fong who steps down as a Commissioner at the end of this year after serving 12 years, nine of them as Chairman.

The transition was formalised at a meeting of the Commission on Wednesday.

WAFC recognised with prestigious award

THE West Australian Football Commission has been honoured for its best practice District Management model with recognition at the recent West Australian Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.

The WAFC, which has been nationally recognised by the AFL for its District Management model, received the Industry Award for Management among an impressive list of contenders.

The WAFC was also shortlisted as a finalist in two other award categories including Volunteer Support and Commitment to Professional Development.
