New Sporting Facility at Orelia Oval

FRIDAY, August 6, 2010 saw the official opening of the Fiona Harris Pavilion in the Town of Kwinana at Orelia Oval. The new $4m facility replaces an outdated and inadequate building and is the new home of the Kwinana Junior Knights Football Club.

Described by the Town as a having a very contemporary design, it is well suited to the needs of the football club having a brilliant outlook over two ovals, a large canteen, with spacious changerooms and meeting space. Importantly it also has changeroom facilties especially for the umpires and that has been warmly welcomed.

Nathan Crookes, President of the Kwinana Junior Knights Football Club was very generous in his praise of the development and stated that "the growth of the Kwinana Junior Knights Football Club took another big step with the official opening of our home and clubrooms at Orelia Oval last Friday."

"Built by the Town of Kwinana with money from the State and Federal Governments and importantly from the AFL it was a great pleasure to represent the Club at this event. We look forward to having this new facility building long term success and friendships for our players and parents both on and off the field," Mr Crookes said.

The facility was officially opened by the Mayor of Kwinana, Carol Adams, with local political representatives the Hon Gary Gray MP (Member for Brand) and the Hon Phil Edman MLC (South Metropolitan) in attendance (see photo).

The building was officially opened in the presence of the late Fiona Harris' children and grand children. Geoff Glass represented the WA Football Commission and the AFL who contributed financially to the project through the AFL Facilities Development Reserve program.
